The Association of Government Internal Auditors, Inc. (AGIA) held the free virtual webinar entitled “Data Privacy Act (DPA) Orientation”, exclusively for its members, on December 16, 2022. 

The webinar, participated in by One Hundred Five (105) participants from GOCCs, LGUs, NGAs, and SUCs, aimed to create awareness of our country’s efforts in ensuring Filipino data privacy and data protection.

The resource person, Atty. Vida Zora G. Bocar, Chief of the Policy Review Division of the National Privacy Commission (NPC), Sub-Project Head of the PHIL-DPO Development Program, and Policy Adviser, BPO and HMO sectors, discussed the Right to Privacy in which she imparted the three aspects, i.e., Location Privacy, Information Privacy, and Decisional Privacy.  She also explained the Basic Concepts and Definitions in the Data Privacy Act (DPA) of 2012, which was expounded through the use of a video clip showing the importance of data processing.  Thereafter, she discussed the Data Life Cycle, and other abbreviations and terminologies used in DPA and expounded the DPA’s provisions, to include the punishable acts and corresponding penalties for violations of the DPA.

Marissa N. Fabricante, AGIA’s President, imparted to the attendees of the webinar the AGIA’s plan to continue its collaboration with the National Privacy Commissioner on the conduct of trainings and certifications for Data Privacy Officers (DPO).  She also extended her thanks to Atty. John Henry Du Naga, NPC Privacy Commissioner, and Chairman, for the support extended to this undertaking. 

 

A Certificate of Appreciation was presented virtually to Atty. Bocar for sharing her invaluable expertise and knowledge to the AGIA.
